- Something Something Women with Weiners in Their Mouths: Grantland examines Sonya Thomas and the role of gender in the world of competitive eating. This piece was posted before Thomas won the women's title, but it's an interesting look at a disgusting sport that is pretty fascinating all around. I joke, but if there's a taco eating competition, then always bet on Dean.

- Werewolves & Lollipops & Batarangs: Patton Oswalt reveals two pitches he sent to DC for Batman stories. Neither was accepted - which is a shame, as they are both pretty great. They have shades of other stories in them - like Jon Sable's work on Suicide Squad and Ed Brubaker's work on Sleeper and Gotham Central (not counting the film influences of M and Dirty Dozen) - but they still seem like a good chance of deepening an already rich mythos.
- It's Not the Batman Fighting Game We Need, It's the One We Deserve: Chris Sims examines fan-made Batman: Gotham Knights fighting game. This needs to be finished and circulated illegally ASAP. ASAP!!!!
- Thank You, Bill Watterson: AJ Aronstein looks at Bill Watterson's Calvin & Hobbes and how nostalgia can never be fully dissected. It's an interesting piece not just on the brilliance of Watterson's work but also on its treatment of how nostalgic elements fall short of the truth in pretty much every respect. Oh and also Calvin & Hobbes still rocks and Watterson never said that men want to rape all the time. Which may seem like a weird claim until you realize that not every cartoonist can brag about it.
- Cocaine's A Helluva Drug: Shock'Em Dead is a pretty shitty 80s movie - but this beyond explanation 1-2 punch of weird death and terrible musical performance makes it seem far more interesting. Great job by Death 13 Cinemas for unearthing this clip (and many other great horror movie moments).
