Every week, we list our recommendations of new music, books, comics, movies and TV to check out. This is Recs in Effect:

New Game

Duke Nukem Forever

14 years. 5 different developers. Duke Nukem Forever became one of those insider geek jokes - something that would never be made and forever postponed. Well, it's finally coming out this week. The Duke Nukem franchise has spawned many imitators and has left its mark on many series - in its development, design and attitude. This installment has been getting less than good marks - but it makes the list because of its long, storied history. Buy it here and check out the trailer below:

New DVD

Midnight Massacre: The Killer Cut

I'll be honest with you - I have no idea if this is any good. It may be crap. Ringing endorsement, right? But this interview with director Jack Messitt makes it sound like it's definitely worth checking out for horror fans. The fact is that horror is a genre that needs to be supported, and good horror movies should be praised as they are a rarity. I'll be checking out this disc in the next few days and will let you know my thoughts.  You can buy it here if you want. And here's the trailer:

New Book:

Go the F**k to Sleep

A children's book for reading at night, but aimed at adults? You betcha. Pick it up here.

New Comic:

Gladstone's School for World Conquerors, #2

This is a pretty fun book about a school for supervillains. Like Harry Potter meets Sky High with a touch of darkness (not that dark, think the evil fantasies of Calvin from Calvin & Hobbes). It's fun, mostly fine for all ages and definitely a good book worth picking up if you want to be entertained an want a break from grim n gritty comics. Pick it up at your local comic book shop or order it here.
